Book Tour - Spotlight & #Review: Auctioned to Protect by Doris O'Connor

Title: Auctioned to Protect
Genre: Erotica, Contemporary, BDSM

Long Blurb:

Tough undercover cop Mike Anderson does not submit to anyone, let alone a pint sized bundle of curves with a Mistress Complex, who stands for everything he despises about BDSM.

Thrown into a world where the rules make no sense to him, he has to rely on his instincts, and they all scream one thing—submit to His Lady.

Scarlett Simpson is one of the most feared Mistresses at Club Spectrum and she has a score to settle. Mike's atrocious behavior needs addressing. If only she wasn't so attracted to the big hunk of a man, and he didn't prove so utterly responsive. As she explores his boundaries through Shibari and Knife Play, Scarlett can't help but get emotionally involved.

Submission freely given is a gift she treasures, but can she trust Mike to stay around once the case is over? When danger comes knocking, will Mike be able to protect her, or will this end in tragedy?

Glutton for punishment would be a good description for Doris... at least that's what she hears on an almost daily basis when people find out that she has a brood of nine children, ranging from adult to
toddler and lives happily in a far too small house, cluttered with children, pets, dust bunnies, and one very understanding and supportive husband. Domestic goddess she is not.

There is always something better to do after all, like working on the latest manuscript and trying not to scare the locals even more than usual by talking out loud to the voices in her head. Her characters
tend to be pretty insistent to get their stories told, and you will find Doris burning the midnight oil on a regular basis. Only time to get any peace and quiet and besides, sleep is for wimps.

She likes to spin sensual, sassy, and sexy tales involving alpha heroes to die for, and heroines who give as good as they get. From contemporary to paranormal, BDSM to F/F, and Ménage, haunting love stories are guaranteed.

My Review of Auctioned to Protect:

Four out of Five Stars

Mike Anderson is one heck of a cop, on a job that requires him to protect Scarlett Simpson by order of the Commissioner. Submission and Dominance aren't really in his repertoire, unless he's the one doing the dominating. Scarlett, however, is a well-known, very respected Domme, and she's determined to break through those tough-as-steel walls Mike has put up around himself. Between Scarlett pushing Mike's limits, and the danger lurking around the corner, will these two make it out safe and sound?

I very much enjoyed Auctioned to the Honorable Dom. And going into Auctioned to Protect, Mike had a lot to prove to me as a reader. He had been such an insufferable, ignorant jerk during his sister's story that I wasn't entirely sure if I would connect with him as a character in his own. Luckily, Doris has a way with her words and her characters that draw you in and make you understand. Beyond his tough exterior and attitude, Mike had his own feelings and problems he was hiding. He's not as difficult as he seems, he just needed the right person to bring the better parts of him out.

Scarlett, on the other hand, needed very little for me to like. She's strong as can be, takes nothing from no one, and isn't the least bit frightened to take what she wants or, for lack of better wording, make you take what you need. She's not afraid to be show her softer sides, either. Her character was just ... perfect. Especially for a Domme, and I'm not particularly big on Dommes, myself. I happen to think Scarlett might have taken a little more crap from Mike than she probably would a normal sub, but that was likely because of her very obvious attachment to the big lout.

Doris keeps you turning the pages with the hints and danger of the stalker who is all too close to Scarlett's heels. Without giving anything away, who it was wasn't who I thought at all. As I've come to expect from this author, the smexy scenes were smoking and leaves nothing to the imagination. Poor Mike didn't know what hit him, hehe.

I'm looking forward to the next after the little piece at the end! Get on that, Doris!
